Veterans Readjustment Act (VRA).

This position has promotion potential to the GS-07 grade level. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

The primary purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work. Duties are performed on rotating shifts, 24 hours a day, and 365 days of the year. Incumbents attend formal, on-the-job and in-service training to include: regularly scheduled weapons qualifications training, periodic instruction and /or drill in law enforcement procedures, and regularly scheduled physical agility training and testing.
The position is located in Cherry Point, NC. 

This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.

Position may require occasional travel.

Weekend, holiday, and overtime work is required.

This position is subject to shift work. 

Selectee will be required to work rotating shifts, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year.

Selectee is subject to 24 hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and in required to respond per installation policy/standard operating procedures.

Selectee may be subject to being interrupted from meal or other work breaks while on duty.

Selectee may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with United States Marine Corps (USMC) and Department of Defense (DoD) policy.

Major duties and responsibilities:
·         Perform a wide variety of complex law enforcement duties generated by the surrounding area of the installation.
·         Respond to and/or investigate complaints of minor to complex incidents, patrolling the installation via motorized vehicles, walking, boats, or bicycling.
·         Gather and analyze facts, take statements, perform traffic law enforcement, perform law enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.
·         Implement antiterrorism/force protection measures, write technical descriptive documents/reports, and perform other law enforcement duties as assigned.
·         Conduct law enforcement/security operations in navigable waters.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.   Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience that provided a basic knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods to assist in performing routine, recurring kinds of fixed post and/or patrol assignments to include: enforcing traffic laws; regulations governing access to buildings; procedures for crimes in progress; and governing rights of individuals.
Or
Have successfully completed a four (4) year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
Or

Have a combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.
Selectee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator’s license.
Selectee must be able to read, write and speak English.
Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton, and obtain other certifications required to accomplish the duties of a law enforcement officer.
